Community-owned pub to hold its third annual members meeting this September: Nominations now open to join the committee

COMMUNITY-owned and run pub the Radnor Arms, situated in the idyllic Radnorshire valley village of New Radnor, Presteigne is set to hold its third annual members meeting, marking a momentous milestone for the community venture.

The committee are inviting the shareholders to come along for an evening of elections and celebrations, as new members of the committee are to be voted in.

Those who join and work on the committee are essential to the success of the Radnor Arms, helping it run efficiently and in line with legal requirements. Members attend in-person meetings, contribute to decision-making, and carry out work between meetings.

Members of the committee play an active role in the committee, representing the views and ideas of the shareholders and not their own. They often lead sub-groups such as finance, governance, marketing, fundraising, grant writing, operations/bar team, gardening, event planning, phase 4 work.

Nominations are now open to join the Radnor Arms committee, and you have until 4th September 2026 to submit your interest.

You'll be asked to complete a form which will be shared with shareholders of the Radnor Arms, who will then vote for their chosen candidate based on the information you have provided.

Sue Norton will announce who has been elected and their length of service on the committee. Committee roles and responsibilities will be decided at the first meeting of the new committee.

Committee members are voted on for a one-to-three-year term of office, dependent on available places and by number of votes cast. This term of office starts after the AGM on 28th September 2026.

The following terms of office are available for this year: 1 x 3 year positions, 2 x 2 year positions and 4 x 1 year positions.

The Radnor Arms welcome all those who want to play a part in the ongoing success of the Radnor Arms. In particular, the committee are seeking individuals with expertise and experience in:

• Commercial business and hospitality sectors

• Community development

• Management accounting.

Only shareholders over the age of 18 can nominate themselves to join the committee, if you are not a shareholder, but would like to become one, you can do so from as little as £25.

You can apply for membership and purchase the minimum shareholding of £25 before the 4th September for your nomination to be accepted. Please contact Paul Norton on treasurer@rahl-cbs.org for information on becoming a shareholder.

A shareholder, disqualified under the Company Directors’ Disqualification Act 1986, is unable to stand as a committee member.

The community benefit society has adopted the Plunkett UK Model Rules which provide a tried-and-tested legal framework for Community Benefit Societies.

Plunkett ensure good governance, democratic member control, and compliance with regulatory requirements, giving communities confidence that their society is run fairly and sustainably.

After the election (at the first meeting of the new committee) any current committee members who are staying on will step down from their present roles. The new committee will then choose who will serve as chair, vice-chair, minute secretary, social secretary, society secretary, treasurer, and team leads.
